Liminal Spaces aka ‘Implied Life’ Photo Study
Who: Raymond Cinemato & Lillie Hill
What: An ‘Liminal Space’ Photo-Shoot Study
When: Occurred on 3/2/2024
Where: Various locations around Fountain Valley, California
Why: Because Raymond has been wanting to explore a ‘vibe’ he’s felt his entire life which he dubbed ‘implied life.’ He describes it as the experience of being in a suburban environment where you may hear or sense other people and the area heavily implies the existence of people, yet you do not see anyone. He heavily associates it with feelings of nostalgia, melancholy, hopefulness, excitement, and yearning. It’s somewhat similar to the modern ‘liminal spaces’ meme. However, it differs significantly in the popular use of a horror tone in the subject.
How: Utilized a Sony A7s III.
The Photo As It Was Taken
In the following video, you can see me snapping photos as I walk. The purpose of doing this was to try to create a first-person-point of view experience to try to capture the movement and nostalgia of, perhaps, a walk home from school as a kid through a suburban back-road. The hope was to utilize motion blur to convey the sudden focus you might get on something in the distance as you move along either by yourself or with your friends.
