I'm excited to announce the release of the very first episode of our podcast, featuring an extraordinary conversation with Preston Zeller. Preston is a Christian husband, father of three, and fellow Chapman University alumnus. He currently serves as the Chief Growth Officer at BatchService, a real estate technology company. However, his journey extends far beyond the corporate world, embracing profound personal and artistic endeavors.
In this inaugural episode, we delve into Preston's inspiring story of perseverance and creativity. After the untimely death of his brother in 2019, Preston embarked on a year-long painting project to process his grief, creating a 10'x20.5' mosaic of 365 paintings.
This project became the foundation of his acclaimed documentary, "The Art of Grieving," released in Summer 2022. The documentary, available on platforms like Amazon Prime, AppleTV, Tubi, and Plex, has been viewed in over 30 countries and received praise from major news outlets such as Fox, CBS, KTLA, and NPR.
Preston's documentary not only showcases his personal journey but also explores the broader question of how society can better address grief. Featuring insights from art therapists and touching on the often misunderstood process of making a personal film, Preston provides valuable lessons on connecting art with an audience and navigating modern film marketing strategies.
Our conversation spans approximately an hour and a half, covering Preston's backstory, the inspiration behind his film, the intricacies of film distribution, and practical advice for aspiring filmmakers. Whether you're an artist, a filmmaker, or someone navigating their own grief, this episode offers a wealth of insights and inspiration.
